When a tooth is damaged but still present, a dental crown can restore its shape, strength, and appearance. A crown fits over the tooth like a protective shell and is commonly used after a root canal, for large fillings, or to repair a cracked or weakened tooth.
If a tooth has more extensive damage, additional support may be required. In these cases, a post and core is placed within the root of the tooth to create a stable foundation. Once this support is in place, the crown is securely fitted, restoring function and durability.
